Trading Depot Celebrates Its First Year of Trading
Trading Depot is celebrating its first year of trading since the launch of its web site www.tradingdepot.co.uk . April 1st 2008 saw the web site launched as a fully integrated web site with information linked to the back end warehouse stock system providing real time pricing information.
Since launch, the web site has grown substantially, with more than double the number of products at approaching 18,000 and covering many more areas such as bathroom supplies, decorating supplies, home improvement and garden maintenance.
Mat Miller, General Manager of Trading Depot said “We are delighted to be celebrating our first year of on-line trading. We spent a lot of time preparing the information and the logistics ready for launch and are very pleased with the turnover and general customer feedback we have received”
Trading Depot currently has access to multiple warehouses of product with storage space in excess of 30,000 sq feet with further stocks from suppliers which normally arrive within 24 hours.
Commenting on the product availability and shipping, key to any internet retailer, Mat said “we have been aiming to ship the product from our despatch centre either same day or next day for delivery the following day. We have managed to achieve this in the overwhelming majority of shipments. As a result, we are very pleased to say we have many repeat customers both trade and individuals which vindicates our efforts”
Despite the current recessionary climate, Trading Depot has been beating the gloom with some excellent trading figures, confirmed by Mat “18 months before we launched and when we were preparing our business plans, we had a number of trading targets we wanted to meet. We are delighted that we have gone through all of these targets – even with the current gloom in the construction market. We have now been sitting down and revising our targets for the next four years and are very well placed for any potential upswing in the market as and when it arrives.”
From its logistics warehouse in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Trading Depot has plenty of room for further growth of the business. Mat continued “many companies who are growing quickly suffer with various bottlenecks with regards capacity and other business systems. We do not anticipate these problems. We ensured that when we started trading the business model was completely scalable. Indeed, we have a backlog of products that we have been asked by both customers and suppliers to feature on our site that we haven’t yet put on. We expect that eventually the site will hold almost 100,000 products available for quick delivery and at competitive pricing.”
For the first few months of trading, Trading Depot focused on a few key areas of product line, trusted brands that were available for quick delivery. For example Aqualisa, Speedfit, MK and others were key brands for the launch and promotion of these have been followed through with success.
Although Trading Depot has positioned itself as a pure play Internet retailer, it has also been putting in effort to compliment the main trading web site with a ‘help’ web site. This now features a number of brands across the electrical supplies, bathroom suppliers, plumbing supplies and other sections with technical information relating to the products which can otherwise be hard to find.
Mat concluded by saying “we are very much looking forward to the future with excitement. We have a great web site, great set of products at the right prices and my team that makes it all happen are all enthused for what we have in store over the coming months and years”.
